Metalforming operations like pressing, stamping, deep drawing, wire drawing, tube drawing and forging require specially formulated compounds to assist in the process. During these operations considerable amount of heat and stress are generated and this is where ACS' Drawing Compounds are designed to perform.
Characteristic of deep drawing is the high pressure on the order of 100,000 pounds per square inch (PSI)involved in the operation. The tooling and sheet metal surfaces are pressed so tightly together that the liquid is squeezed out and only a very thin adsorbed film remains. This film forms a "boundary," preventing direct metal-to-metal contact under conditions of high pressure and temperature produced during the deep drawing operation. Proper lubrication prevents friction, which causes heating and can ultimately lead to the breakdown of a lubricant.
